HOW TO CREATE A 3-D THATCHED ROOF IN SKETCHUP

In this tutorial, I will show you the process on how to make a thatched roof in SketchUp with additional plugin such as ‘Make Fur’.

STEP 1: To start the tutorial, I created a 3-D pyramid hip roof using the ‘Line tool’ and ‘Rectangle tool’. This will serves as the frame of our roof. Later in this tutorial, we will be using the 'Make Fur' plugin and in order to properly generate the plugin, make sure that all the outer surface plane of the 3-D model is set in white/or front face.

STEP 2A:  Import the thatched roof image in SketchUp and use it as texture. To do that, click File>import>select the image texture(s) from the folder> select ‘use as texture’> then press open.

STEP 2B: Apply the texture into the 3-D model surface.

STEP 3: Using the ‘Make Fur’ plugin, select all the roof surface. 'Make Fur' download link. Click Here

STEP 4: Click the ‘Make Fur (Web dialog)’, then change the settings for the ‘Main’ and ‘Detail’ option. Follow the modified settings for the Main’ and ‘Detail’ option as presented in figure 5. When done, click ‘Make Fur’ button to generate the 3-D fur.

STEP 5: 3-D model thatched roof so far with generated fur.

STEP 6: Add necessary details in the model such as columns and base corner.
